A Message from Superintendent John R. Williamson |
|
|
Dear Model Families,
We are off to a fantastic start in Term 4. After Spring Break, our students have returned with renewed energy and focus, setting a positive tone for the final months of the school year. This is always a meaningful time at Model, as we reflect on growth, celebrate accomplishments, and look ahead to all that remains to be achieved.
The weeks ahead will highlight the very best of our school community. From academic excellence to artistic expression, our students will have opportunities to share their talents and demonstrate their learning. We warmly invite you to join us for a few upcoming events:
|
-
Visual & Performing Arts Showcase: Monday, April 6, at 6:00 p.m., EKU Center for the Arts
-
Elementary Academic Showcase: Thursday, April 30, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
-
Secondary Academic Showcase: Thursday, May 14, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
|
These events are a true reflection of The Model Experience—where learning is active, engaging, and proudly shared with others.
Thank you to the many families who have already confirmed their intent to return for the 2026–2027 school year. Your continued trust and partnership mean a great deal to us. If you have not yet submitted your deposit, please remember the March 31 deadline to secure your child’s enrollment.
As a reminder, there will be no school on Friday, April 3, in observance of Good Friday. We hope this extended weekend provides time for rest, reflection, and meaningful moments with family and friends.
Thank you for choosing Model for your child’s education.
Sincerely,
|
John R. Williamson

Last week, Model Laboratory Schools proudly welcomed 16 students, two teachers, and a guide from Kōryō High School in Yamanashi, Japan, as part of the long-standing cultural exchange between Madison County, Kentucky, and Hokuto City, Japan. Since 1988, this unique sister-region partnership—one of the only of its kind in the world—has provided students with meaningful opportunities to connect, learn, and build lasting global friendships.
During their stay from March 17-24, the visiting students were immersed in daily life alongside their Model host families, experiencing both the classroom and the community. Their week was filled with memorable highlights, including a tour of the EKU School of Aviation, a visit to Meadowbrook Farm to explore sustainable agriculture, horseback riding at the Kentucky Horse Park, and time with the EKU Art Department. Students also enjoyed a fun, American-style prom-themed dance, offering a glimpse into a classic U.S. tradition.
The visit concluded with a heartfelt farewell dinner, featuring a traditional American Thanksgiving-style potluck shared among students, families, and staff—a fitting celebration of gratitude, connection, and cultural exchange.
Special thanks to Dr. Lynnette Noblitt, Angela Hardin, Model Laboratory School teachers and administrators, and the Madison County International Committee for their dedication in making this experience possible. Through opportunities like this, Model continues to foster global awareness, cultural appreciation, and lifelong connections for our students.

Patriot Pals Animal Shelter Drive
|
Mrs. Herbst’s class partnered with Patriot Pals to make a meaningful impact through a recent pet drive benefiting the Madison County Animal Shelter. Students collected toys and food, then rolled up their sleeves to create enrichment items and prepare treats for the animals. After organizing and packing the donations, they were rewarded with a special visit with some playful puppies—making it a hands-on experience in compassion, service, and community care.
